Timberwolves trade 3-and-D wing Josh Green to Jazz

NBA -- 08/29 08:24 -- by Shams Charania

The Minnesota Timberwolves have traded Josh Green and cash to the Utah Jazz for Cody Williams and John Konchar , the teams announced Saturday. The Timberwolves are expected to keep Williams, the No. 10 pick in 2024, and waive-and-stretch Konchar, sources told ESPN. Saturday is the final day to waive a player and stretch out his guaranteed salary over multiple seasons. Minnesota can now sign a 15th player and will have more apron flexibility during the season by waiving and stretching Konchar's salary for $2.05 million across three straight years.

In order to sign newly acquired forward Jonathan Kuminga using the taxpayer midlevel exception, the Timberwolves discussed multiple trade scenarios for Green. They found a home for him on a Jazz team that wanted an additional 3-and-D wing. Moving Green's $14.7 million deal gives Minnesota the salary space to complete signing Kuminga to a two-year, $12.4 million contract.
