D'Shawntae Jones' late TD run lifts Miami (Ohio) to 28-27 win over Central Michigan
MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- D'Shawntae Jones ' 2-yard touchdown run with 1:41 to go lifted Miami (Ohio) to a 28-27 win over Central Michigan on Saturday.
After Caden VanHuis ' 22-yard field goal extended the Chippewas' lead to 27-21, Caleb Heavner drove the RedHawks (5-3, 3-1 Mid-American Conference) down the field, hitting Maleek Huggins for a 27-yard catch down to the CMU 10. JaJuan Jones was then called for consecutive interference penalties before D'Shawntae Jones' winning run.
Miami led 14-10 after Heavners 7-yard TD toss to Damarion Witten with 20 seconds left in the first half. Justin Taylor gave the lead back to Central Michigan (3-5, 1-3) with a 46-yard pick-6 early in second half. Heavner dropped back before finding a hole up the middle for a 27-yard TD run before the Chippewas again took the lead 24-21 on Jadyn Glasser 's 9-yard TD pass to Langston Lewis in the third quarter's final minute.
Heavner threw for 221 yards and a touchdown and was picked off twice. He added 58 rushing yards with a score. Maleek Huggins had 122 yards receiving on seven catches.
Glasser threw for 221 yards and a score. Lewis had 163 yards receiving on 10 catches.
Miami (Ohio): Home against Buffalo on Nov. 3.
Central Michigan: Plays Eastern Michigan at Ford Field in Detroit on Nov. 4.
